Preserve · Rehome

A regional home for books, collections, and printed history.

Kansas Book Depository helps individuals, families, estates, and organizations evaluate, sell, donate, and rehome books and printed material throughout Kansas and the Kansas City region.

Before you sort, move, donate, or discard a collection, call us. A short conversation—and a few photographs—can help us understand what you have and recommend the best next step.

By appointment in Overland Park. House calls available.

A safe place to begin

You do not need to be a book expert.

You may be standing in front of shelves, boxes, or a basement full of books, wondering what matters and where to start. You do not need a catalog, an inventory, or every title sorted.

Before you move, donate, or discard anything, call us.

Leave the books where they are until we talk.

We will meet with you at our office—or come to you. Together, we’ll look at what you have and point out material that deserves a closer look, explain what may have value, and help you understand the practical choices for selling, donating, preserving, or rehoming your books.

Not every book will be rare, and not every collection will have the same destination. We will be honest about what we see and respectful of what the books have meant to you or your family.

How we help

Thoughtful options for books in transition.

Collection evaluations

We look at individual books, shelves, boxed collections, and entire libraries to help determine what deserves closer attention.

Estates and downsizing

We work with families, executors, and people facing a move or cleanout. We help establish priorities before books are separated or discarded.

House calls

There is no need to move a large collection before we have talked. For appropriate collections, we visit homes, offices, storage spaces, and estates and can help coordinate removal.

Purchase, donation, and rehoming

Depending on the material, we may discuss a purchase, accept selected books for rehoming, or suggest another practical destination.

Three simple steps

Getting started should be easy.

Step 1

Contact us

Call, email, or send the short form. Tell us where the books are and roughly how many you have. If photographs are difficult, just call us.

Step 2

Show us a few photographs.

Text or email an overall view of what you have—whether individual books, shelves, or boxes—plus a few closer photographs with readable titles. You do not need to photograph every book.

Step 3

We’ll recommend the next step.

We may ask for another photograph, arrange an appointment, make a house call, discuss a purchase, or suggest another option.

Books often arrive during a move, an estate, a cleanout, or another moment of transition.

Collection transitions

Leave the books where they are until we talk.

A collection can lose its context quickly when books are moved, separated, or discarded. Begin with the whole picture. We can help establish what deserves closer attention and what practical choices make sense.
